You’re single and want to upgrade your Hinge profile to start matching the girls you’ve always wanted.
Well, you’re in the right place, young padawan.
Because you’re about to get all the Hinge profile tips you need to start getting more matches than there are Pokemon.
In this article:More...1. Show off your personality with your photos
Let’s get the biggest misconception out of the way first: you shouldn’t be trying to look just hot in your photos.Only looking good in your photos typically creates a stock photo vibe.
Yes, you might look attractive, but it’s also devoid of any personality. Each photo should add another dimension to your unique personality.
Use your photos to give a complete view of who you are.
Show that you’re fun, adventurous, silly, playful, and interesting. Because that’s what will set you apart from other men and get you more Hinge matches.
Here’s an ideal photo lineup for what type of photos you can use in your Hinge profile.
- Close up headshot.
- Full body shot.
- Candid shot.
- Photos of your interests.
- photos of your interests.
- Looks focused photo.
Once you have these set up you can begin improving the rest of your Hinge profile to get an abundance of matches.

2. Verify your profile
Don’t overlook this step: verify your Hinge profile.
A verified profile makes others more comfortable connecting with you, as it signals that you’re a real person who’s invested in genuine connections.
It’s also easy to do. Here’s how:
- Tap the Photo icon on the far right of your Hinge navigation bar.
- Tap on the gray check mark under your name.
- Click continue.
- Allow camera access.
- Follow the prompts to capture your selfie.
And that’s it! Easier than putting your pants on in the morning.
Now you’re instantly more trustworthy, which will make more people want to match with you.

If you want more Hinge matches, you have to instantly catch someone’s attention.
With how fast things move today, people don’t have the patience to read a lot, so brevity is key when writing your prompts.
Keep your prompt answers short, sweet, and emotionally stimulating.
Do this, and watch more people match you because of your prompt answers. Prompts are also great for giving people a better idea of who you are. But mix it up a little. Most people get stuck in one gear.
For example, use one humorous prompt, one thoughtful, and one playful or curious. I also recommend choosing a prompt that talks about values that are important to you.
Here are some examples.
- My personal hell is…someone telling me a story with ‘you had to be there’ energy.
- Dating me is like…getting sushi the next day after having one too many espresso martinis.
- A life goal of mine…start a non profit for burn victim children.
- My simple pleasures…oatmeal raisin cookies, sunny days at the beach, and spending the holidays with the family skiing.
- I want someone who…is kind to those around them, is kinda dorky, and who sleeps on the left side of the bed only.
Here are some favorites of mine as well in video format for your own personal enjoyment while you poop.

Here’s how you attract EXACTLY the type of person you’re looking for: be honest about your preferences.
Being honest and specific about your preferences helps attract people who genuinely align with what you’re looking for.
Don’t worry if it turns a few people off; being a little polarizing can actually work in your favor. When you’re clear about your values and quirks, you’re more likely to connect with people who genuinely vibe with you, creating stronger, more meaningful matches.
If that means saying you want someone who can go backpacking and getting a bit dirty while hiking, then throw it in your profile.
If it means you wouldn’t date a vegan, great, let’s filter out those grass eaters.
Do you want casual relationships? Put that in so you don’t waste anyone’s time who is looking for something long term.
Only want to date someone above 6 feet? Welp, sorry short kings, but it’s better off this way if it’s someone’s preference.
Filter for only the type of people you want and you’ll start matching with the type of people who align with what you’re looking for.

Don’t make this mistake on your Hinge profile or it will cost you matches.
Over editing your profile.
Trying too hard to make your profile perfect can actually work against you. When a profile looks overly curated or feels like you’re trying to impress, it can come across as less genuine. And that makes you a filthy try-hard, yuck.
People are usually more drawn to profiles that feel natural and real, not overly polished. Instead of editing every detail to perfection, let your true personality shine through with a mix of fun photos and honest prompts.
So lay off the Facetune and don’t have 6 super posed photos from a photoshoot.
You’ll get much better results this way.

6. Engage with comments, not just likes
You’ll get more matches if you engage profiles with comments.
Instead of just tapping “like,” try commenting on something specific in the person’s profile—it makes a much stronger first impression. Which, unsurprisingly, leads to more and higher quality matches.
A thoughtful comment shows off your wit and confidence, instantly making you more attractive…if you pull it off right.
While just “liking” a profile is on the lazy side, blegh. A little bit of effort goes a long way.

7. Use the Standout feature
Some ‘dating experts’ say you shouldn’t send roses to your standouts.
This is COMPLETELY false.
But what are standouts?
Standouts are people who are considered “really really ridiculously good looking” (insert zoolander meme) based on your criteria. And shared common interests. And roses are “special likes” used only on your standouts.
Basically, they’re people who Hinge thinks you’ll like and want to impress with. That’s why the dating app gives you the option to send them a cute, digital flower.
A pretty neat Hinge feature. Since these Standouts typically will have more in common with you than random Hinge profiles.
Don’t be afraid to send those Standouts a rose and personalized like to grab their attention.
8. Have someone else rate your photos
Here’s the truth when it comes to rating your own photos: you’re probably pretty bad at it.
People in general are notoriously bad at choosing photos that make us look the most attractive. Sometimes we’ll think we look cool, but in reality, we come across as arrogant or trying hard to look cool. Or maybe we think the photo is fun, but actually it’s a little…flamboyant.
It’s not your fault. Most of us are just poor judges of character when it comes to our self-image.
That’s why it’s important to get a second (or 69th) opinion on your photos.
Friends and family CAN work for this, but just be aware they’re biased towards you. They may think all of your photos are perfect, when in reality they’re not.
Photofeeler.com can be good for seeing how attractive a photo is (at least for profile picture type photos).

9. Be selective
If you want higher quality matches, you need to start doing THIS.
Be. More. Selective.
Long gone are the days where you should match with everyone and then filter.
That was actually pretty bad dating advice at the time anyway, but I digress. Be selective and avoid swiping indiscriminately. Hinge’s algorithm rewards users who thoughtfully interact, as it sees this as a sign of genuine intent, which can improve your visibility.
Plus, you only have 5 likes per day with freemium.
So if you see someone and think “mehhh, I’m not that excited about them because they eat cereal with water instead of milk,” don’t match with them. Even if you think they’re hotter than Olivia J Wilde in a sundress.
Have some standards.
Take your time to figure out if you’d like to meet up or chat with someone before swiping right.
Doing this will lead to higher quality matches you who actually connect with.
10. Update your profile
Long term, here’s what you need to do in order to consistently get more matches.
Update your profile.
That’s right fellas. That means you can’t use that photo from 14 years ago showing you with a 6 pack and a full head of hair.
That means you can’t use that internet meme you saw in 2010 in your prompt answer.

If you want to get an insane amount of good matches, you need to constantly be editing your profile and tracking the differences. Better not to overhaul everything at once though, otherwise new matches might think he’s putting too much energy into online dating.
But when you get a new photo you think will improve your profile, or think of some new witty idea to answer one of your prompts, then you should be updating things.
That will give you long term success when you’re using Hinge.
Why don’t I have any matches on Hinge?
Still curious as to why you currently aren’t getting any matches on Hinge?
I’ve simplified things for you here:
- Too many unappealing photos. Either low quality or they make you look less than desirable.
- Too many “photoshoot” style photos. Nobody wants someone who is that full of themselves.
- Unverified profile.
- A bio that’s boring and too long.
- Bad or predictable prompt answers. Many people tend to get stuck in one gear and only have funny, romantic, or cool answers. This grows stale really fast.
How to get more matches on Hinge – Conclusion
In order to get great matches on Hinge, you have to put in a little effort.
Or a lot if you’re starting from ground zero.
That means getting some high quality photos capturing your good side and your personality. You can’t expect something from nothing.
You’re also going to have to write some solid answers to your prompts showing off your values, interests, and personality. People want to meet people who are interesting and who are going to add value to someone else’s life.
So be that person who adds a little extra sunshine to someone else.
And be selective with who you match with. Nobody wants to shack up with Desperate Dave and his lack of standards.
