What is Tinder Incognito Mode and how does it work?
Tinder Incognito Mode is a feature that lets you control who can see your profile. Once you turn it on in your settings, your profile is only visible to people you’ve already liked, rather than everyone in the swipe deck. It’s perfect if you’re trying to keep things low-key or just want more control over your Tinder experience.
The catch?
It’s not free—you’ll need a Tinder Plus, Gold, or Premium subscription to use it. But if you’re a bit tired of random people swiping on you or you’re looking for a more private way to date, it could be worth it. Think of it as being “incognito” in the dating world—still there, but only for the people you choose.
How to Turn on Tinder Incognito Mode
Turning on Tinder Incognito Mode is easy. Here’s how to do it:
- Open the Tinder app and tap on your profile icon (top left corner).
- Head to Settings (look for the little gear icon).
- Scroll down to find “Control My Visibility” or the Incognito Mode option.
- Tap it and turn it on.

Incognito Mode is included in all of Tinder’s premium subscriptions. So if you want it, you’ll need to pay.
If Incognito Mode is all you care about, you can settle for the least expensive membership, Tinder Plus. Its costs vary based on your age, location, and current promotions.

Incognito Mode lets you stay active but only visible to people you like—perfect if you want to swipe privately while keeping control.
Hiding your profile (“Show me on Tinder” off) completely removes you from the swipe deck. Great for taking a break or focusing on existing matches, but you can’t swipe on new people.
If you still want to meet new people but stay under the radar, Incognito Mode is the better option. If you’re pausing your search, hiding your profile works fine.

Incognito Mode is great if you’re a public figure, a teacher who wants to avoid being seen by students, or someone newly single testing the waters. It lets you swipe on Tinder without showing up to everyone—only the people you’ve liked will see your profile.
That said, it’s not full anonymity. Your ISP, Tinder itself, and certain third-party tracking tools can still tell you’re using the app.
If full privacy is your goal, you’d need to turn off location tracking on your device and use a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to hide your online activity. Even then, people you like and match with will still see you.
But let’s not forget the most important thing…
