Getting fewer matches than you should be getting? Or almost no matches?

I don’t want to scare you, but you might be punished with Tinder shadowban.

What is a Tinder shadowban?

A Tinder Shadowban is the consequence of breaking Tinder’s community guidelines. A shadowbanned user can still access the app and everything will seem largely normal.

But the opposite is true.

Other users won’t see your profile which makes getting matches impossible.

How does a Tinder shadowban work?

Imagine you’re playing your favorite shooter game.

You can run around, see everyone else playing, aim at them, shoot at them, but your bullets don’t do anything. In fact, other players don’t even see you running around the same map.

It’s like you’re a ghost.

That’s what a Tinder shadowban is like.

You can still see all available Tinder profiles, you can even swipe them. But you won’t ever get a match because nobody can see you in the swipe stack.

Your Tinder profile is effectively invisible.

The dating service prefers to keep your banned status a secret so that you’ll keep using the app.

Being shadowbanned feels like having a Tinder profile that nobody likes. So how do you find out if you’ve been shadowbanned or that you’re unpopular?

With the Tinder shadowban Test. See below.

Test if you’ve been shadowbanned on Tinder

The quickest way to know if you are shadowbanned is to look for the next 5 symptoms.

The more you recognize, the more likely you’re shadowbanned.

1. Your right swipes rarely lead to matches

Maybe you used to get a good amount of matches but now almost none. Or maybe you just had a few but now absolutely zero.

2. You get the feeling the app is glitching

Although a shadowban allows you to use the app close to normal, some things won’t work as usual. Such as not being able to get verified or changing the photos of your Tinder profile.

3. Your matches don’t text back

If your Tinder matches aren’t consistently replying to your messages, it’s very possible that they don’t get to see your texts anymore.

4. You’ve been given a warning for inappropriate behavior

If Tinder reaches out to you about breaking its guidelines, you need to watch out. Depending on the severity of your inappropriate behavior, you may only get one warning.

The most common ways to receive one of these notifications is by:

  • Uploading inappropriate profile photos.
  • Sending ill-mannered texts.
  • Getting reported.

5. You’ve tried to reset your Tinder account

If used sparingly, resetting your Tinder will boost the exposure of your profile for 24 hours and reevaluate your profile’s desirability.

If your reset has zero impact on your like and match count, you’ve probably been shadowbanned.

6. You’re not seeing an increase in your profile Likes

If you don’t see your profile Likes go up, it’s probably that people can’t see your profile anymore.

Are you already over the 99+ Like maximum? Then you won’t be able to tell without upgrading your membership to Gold or Platinum.

Tinder Platinum and Gold give you a feature that lets you see exactly how many people have liked you.

How do you recover from a shadowban?

You’ve largely got two options.

I. Get in touch with Tinder support

If you didn’t break any rules and you think the ban is unjustified, you can ask the dating service to unban you.

It’s unlikely to work, but it’s worth a shot.

You can file your request to Tinder here.

II. Create a new account

If you’ve violated Tinder’s guidelines, it’s best to start with a clean account.

Before I give you all the steps, it’s crucial to understand what you’re trying to achieve here. Tinder has access to all the data that’s tied to your previous account.

Stuff like your SIM card, IP address, phone number, Facebook, and more.

If you create your new profile using anything that links back to your old profile, Tinder will ban your new account too.

1. Delete your old account and app.

Although not a prerequisite, it’s a smart move to start the forgetting process. Tinder holds onto your non-financial data for 12 months after a ban.

So if you delete your previous profile and wait for Tinder to forget about you, you’ll be able to reuse your old photos and social media.

Be sure to disconnect your Facebook and Instagram from Tinder too. Simply remove Tinder’s permission in the security settings.

2. Create a new Google account or Apple ID.

You can’t get an app on your phone without these accounts. And Tinder is familiar with them too.

If you need help, simply Google your question. Plenty of people have answered your question in detail.

3. Prevent all ties to your previous device before downloading Tinder.

Download the app using a different IP. Such as with an incognito tab, a Wi-Fi that’s different from your home setup, or via a VPN.

Then install Tinder on a new phone with a different SIM card.

You only need the new SIM to receive a code from Tinder that activates your account. So once you’ve activated your account, you can replace the new SIM card with your usual card.

But be careful NOT to lose your Tinder SIM card.

Eventually, Tinder will ask you to re-authenticate your Tinder with a new code. So keep your new SIM somewhere safe.

4. Create a new account with a new number and email.

There are a million and one ways to get a new phone number and email. I trust that you’re smart enough to figure this out yourself.

5. Launch your profile with different photos.

Now we’ve got this far, do not make the mistake of reusing material from your old Tinder profile. The dating service’s robots will almost certainly recognize you and ban you again!

Use new photos and a different bio.

And if you’re going to buy Super Likes or become a paying member, be sure to use a different payment method.

Congratulations, you just successfully created a new fresh Tinder account.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why did Tinder shadowban me?

You broke Tinder’s community guidelines. So if you’re curious about the meaning of your shadowban, it means that Tinder sees you as a rotten apple.

How long does a shadowban last?

Indefinitely. Your best option is to create a new account using completely new data and photos that can’t be tied to your previous Tinder account.

What’s the difference between a Tinder shadowban and a traditional ban?

A typical ban completely shuts you out from the dating app and includes a notification of your removal.

A shadowban is almost identical, except for two critical differences. You can still access the app as usual (although it might feel a bit ‘glitchy’), but you aren’t told that your profile has been removed from the Tinder swipe stack.

Tinder Shadowban – Summary

If you think you’ve been shadowbanned, it’s important to do the Tinder shadowban test. The more signs you see that your profile is invisible, the bigger the odds that you’re banned.

Once you’re on Tinder’s naughty list, your best option is to create a new Tinder profile that’s impossible to connect to your previous account.

Did you accidentally make a new Tinder account with the same SIM card, phone number, or email address?

Then your new account will probably be banned too.

So be careful.

Tinder platinum member. I was shadow banned for several weeks, wasn’t getting any matches not even the usual bots that are on there. Reason I suspect is I put on my profile “please no premium snapchat sellers.” The site is swimming with them, btw. I think I got reported by a salty sex worker that didn’t like me saying that. I changed my profile, then I emailed support about it, how my account had gone dry for several weeks. They denied any shadow ban happened but shortly thereafter I started getting matches daily again. They must have reset my account. I think shadow bans are definitely a thing, but they won’t admit it if you ask. But another alternative is reaching out to support if you didn’t do anything wrong. Worked for me.
