By the end of this article, you’ll know whether Tinder or Badoo is right for you.

What is Tinder?

Tinder is one of the most famous dating apps in the world.

And it has popularized the ‘swipe right if you like ‘em, swipe left if you dislike ‘em’ format.

Outside a brief ‘about me’ description and a collection of photos, the only real way to get to know someone is through chatting. If you want more options, you can consider getting a paid subscription.

  • Most popular dating app in the world.
  • Swipe left (profiles you don’t like) and swipe right (profiles you do like).
  • Different subscription options. Discussed later in the article.

What is Badoo?

Badoo calls itself a “dating-focused social network.” It’s an app where you can choose to find friends or love.

Your options are dating, open to chat, or ready for a relationship. This is so you can let the world know whether you’re interested in general dating, friendship, or wanting a serious relationship. You’re letting the world know right away what you’re looking for so there’s no confusion.

  • Dating app + “social discovery.”
  • Find matches through swiping, or a list of nearby app users.
  • Choose date, chat, or ready for relationship options.
  • Different subscription options. Discussed later in the article.

Who is it for?

Generally, both apps are for singles seeking love. Whether that be short or long-term, hookups or everlasting happiness, the world is your oyster.

Tinder is a universal dating app popular across the world. Badoo is more popular in certain places, and is largely for dating as well.

With Badoo, you can also pick “open to chat” if you’re looking to make friends. So it’s not exclusively for dating, although most users are seeking romance. Point being:

It’s the same…but different.

Which app is better for hookups?

Ultimately, the best app for you is whichever leads to more dates. And in most cases, that would be Tinder. This is largely because of the amount of profiles Tinder has. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t give Badoo a try. Many of my students have had success with both Badoo and Tinder.

But no app in the world will get you hookups if your profile and conversation skills aren’t up to snuff. That’s why I’m giving you my 10 texts that always work! They’ll get you closer to dates, whether you’re looking for short or long-term friends 😉

How do you make a profile?

Here’s how you set up a Tinder account:

  1. Download the app on the App Store or Google Play.
  2. Click create account.
  3. Select a sign-in method.
  4. Verify information (if prompted).
  5. Set up a profile.
  6. Start swiping.

Here’s how you set up a Badoo account:

  1. Download the app on the App Store or Google Play.
  2. Choose whether to log in with your Facebook (easiest) or other methods.
  3. Choose your connection option (date, chat, or relationship).
  4. Set up a profile.
  5. Start swiping and looking at a list of nearby accounts.

How does it work?

On Tinder, there’s only one way to get matches: you like someone who likes you back.

Badoo lets you swipe for matches in the same way. AND gives you another way to connect with people…

… you can browse a list of people who are nearby. Click the profile of the lady you fancy and chat away.

Unfortunately, this option is not free.

A screen will come up essentially telling you to pay up, or shut up.

Credits are a digital currency that you buy with real money.

More on Tinder and Badoo subscription options in the next tip.

Do you have to pay?

Both apps offer a pretty good free version. Definitely enough to get you matches and dates.

So why even consider the paid options?

Let’s get into that now, starting with Tinder.

Tinder offers three paid subscriptions: Tinder Plus, Tinder Gold, and Tinder Platinum:

  • Tinder Plus introduces one of my favorite features, Passport. It gives you the ability to change your location and swipe around the world. Price depends on age and region.
  • Tinder Gold has everything Tinder Plus has, plus one important feature: you can see who likes you. That can save you time swiping on randos. It costs about 10 bucks more than Plus.
  • Tinder Platinum is the best subscription of all, because it makes women see your profile earlier than anyone without Platinum. And it gives you the ability to send women a text before matching. Costs about 15 dollars more than Plus.

Badoo offers two paid subscriptions: Badoo Premium, and Badoo Premium Plus.

  • Badoo Premium allows you to see which profiles have liked you. And the messages you send get priority in the inbox of whom you send it. Cost is about 25 dollars per month.
  • Badoo Premium Plus includes everything Badoo Premium has, but twice a week you can opt to “unlock a chat” before someone matches with you. Basically, if you send a message to someone, they get it whether they’ve liked you or not. Normally, if they don’t like you, they don’t get your message. It costs about 20 dollars more than Premium.

You can also access paid features by buying Badoo Credits without a monthly subscription. If you want to talk to a girl from your Nearby List, it’ll cost you about 6 bucks worth of credits. Yikes..

Tinder vs. Badoo, who wins?

Here are Tinder’s pros and cons.

  • Largest number of users.
  • Popular across the world.
  • People of all ages, ethnicities, sexualities, and backgrounds.
  • Perfect for when you’re visiting/living in a capital city.
  • Good for both flings and relationships.
  • Quantity does not always equal quality.
  • Lacks decent filtering options.
  • The paid Platinum subscription is becoming increasingly necessary.
  • Wildly varied levels of interest and engagement.

And here are Badoo’s.

  • Wildly popular in some areas of the world.
  • You can choose to only see verified profiles (aka, no catfish).
  • Allows you to browse singles in your area.
  • Younger demographic in certain locations.
  • Good for testing out your profile.
  • Only workable in specific regions of the world..
  • Sometimes serves a weirdly narrow demographic (in Hong Kong it’s filled with middle-aged women but in Slovenia, it’s mainly uneducated teens).
  • Not everyone is looking to date.

In my humble, yet experienced opinion, Tinder wins hands down.

The only thing that Tinder has over Badoo is that you can find singles in your area. But even that feature is a bit meh.

Just change your Tinder distance settings and you get the same result.

So Tinder is definitely the superior dating app. Although you can still give Badoo a try for fun.

But be warned, you might get eaten by a ScArY fish in Badoo. Seriously.

I don’t know how, but one second I was sending a text and the other I was Finding Nemo.

And I didn’t know how to stop playing. Nor which fishie I was supposed to be… 🙁

Build a profile she can’t resist to match
