Tinder is a great app to improve your dating life, and it has a number of fantastic features. Some of which are free and some are paid or included in premium memberships.

Tinder core functionality
Of course Tinder has it’s core functionality. The thing that you actually come for. First, you create a profile containing pictures, a bio, and optionally some other things.
Next, you set some filters like geographical range, age and prefered sex, and get to see people’s profile. After inspecting their pics and bio, you can swipe right (like) or left (dislike).
If the other also liked you, you’re a match! And you can start chatting.
Next are a couple of free functions that have been introduced in recent years that deserve an explanation.
Tinder personality types
There’s a questionaire included in Tinder that gives your personality type, based on the Myers–Briggs Type Indicator.
You can show it on your Tinder profile, and it’s a fun way of getting to know people.
It’s not exactly very scientifically backed, but Tinder personality types is a fun way of showing who you are.

This is one for all you music junkies. You can actually select your ‘anthem’ from Spotify, and Tinder music mode will automatically play it when someone sees your profile.
Its psychologically irresistible to ignore. I call it the Clickbait-Opener. And I made a free video with screen-shot examples on how to use it.

Tinder Vibes lets you see if someone is a fit for you before even liking their profile. The dating app will ask everyone a series of personal questions, and when users have similar answers, their profile will have a ‘mutual vibes’ sticker.
So instead of swiping people based on their looks, you can potentially match with people based on their personality and interests, or ‘Vibe’.
If you match with someone that you’re Vibing with, you’ll already have a few things in common.

Tinder hot takes is basically Tinder’s equivalent of speed dating.
You get invited to chat with someone before you match for a fixed amount of time. Once the timer runs out, you both have to choose if you want to become a match or meet someone new.
Tinder Hot Takes won’t always be available to you. The speed dating game is tied to specific events that are run at specific times, typically from 6PM to midnight (your local time).
Tinder explore
Tinder Explore does two things. Firstly, it’s a hub that brings together all of Tinder’s special activities. Such as Vibes, Swipe Night and more.
Secondly, it’s a new way to connect with Tinder users based on interests and dating goals.
It’s a great addition. Because before you could only filter out people based on gender, age and location. Hardly anything specific.
Tinder Explore gives you the ability to create your own feed based on their passions and pursuits. Something that says far more about their personality.
Tinder free tonight
Tinder Free Tonight is a feature designed to help you connect with people looking for a spontaneous meet-up on the same evening. It’s part of the app’s Explore section and makes it easy to find others who are ready to hang out without any long back-and-forth.
Tinder secret admirer
Tinder’s Secret Admirer feature is a fun mini-game that lets you discover who has liked your profile.
You’re shown four cards of people who have already swiped right on you. You pick one card to reveal and then get to see who they are.
You then decide if you want to match with them.
It’s a playful way to see potential matches without needing a paid subscription, like Gold or Platinum; special memberships that let you see who’s already liked your profile.
Tinder read receipts (Paid)
Tinder Read Receipts are a paid future that’s not included in any membership. Premium or free.
To get access to Read Receipts, users have to buy them separately in packages of 5, 10, or 20.
Activating them for a conversation with a Tinder match counts as one use, no matter how many texts you send.
IMPORTANT: Users can disable Read Receipts to maintain their privacy. So it’s possible that you won’t be able to activate your Read Receipts in your last conversation even though you’ve bought them.

Tinder unlimited likes
With Tinder’s free plan, you have a daily likes limit of 50-100.
However, with the Plus plan (or up) you get unlimited likes. This means you can swipe as many hotties right as you want without running out.
Tinder passport mode
Passport Mode on Tinder is a feature that lets you change your location to anywhere in the world. Instead of swiping through profiles near your current physical location, you can pick a city or region you’re interested in and start matching with people in that area.
It’s a great feature if you Tinder while traveling. You can set up some dates before you even arive.
It’s only available to users with a paid subscription like Tinder Plus, Gold, or Platinum.
Tinder Incognito mode
Tinder Incognito Mode is a feature that lets you control who can see your profile. Once you turn it on in your settings, your profile is only visible to people you’ve already liked, rather than everyone in the swipe deck. It’s perfect if you want to browse Tinder anonymously or just want more control over your Tinder experience.
Tinder super likes
A Tinder Super Like is a special way to show someone you’re interested in them that makes you stand out.
Firstly, they receive a notification. If they follow the notification, it doesn’t bring them to your profile. It leads them to their Tinder stack. And since your Super Like pushed your profile close to the top, they’ll find you after a couple of swipes.
How doe they know you Superliked them? Because your profile will have a blue outline and a star icon.
Tinder boost & primetime boost
Tinder Boost is a feature designed to help you stand out by pushing your profile to the top of the stack in your area for 30 minutes, giving you a better chance of getting noticed and matched.
Primetime Boost is a premium feature that puts your profile on the top of everyone’s swipe deck when the app is at its most active.
Unlike a regular Boost, which increases visibility at any time you choose, Primetime Boost works specifically during high-traffic hours when the chances of matching are highest.
Tinder top picks
Tinder Top Picks is a feature that gives Gold and Platinum subscribers a new selection of promising matches, every day.
According to Tinder, the idea is that Top Picks will “highlight your most swipe-worthy potential matches”.
Swiping a Top Pick doesn’t guarantee a match. Tinder doesn’t make any claims on increased chances of matching.
Special note: Tinder U
Tinder U is a seperate app that’s made specifically for college students. It works similarly to the standard Tinder app, but is designed for students to connect with peers from their own university or nearby schools.
The aim is to make it easier for students to meet new people, find dates, or make friends.
To realise that goal, the Discovery pile is limited to students only. Starting with the people from your campus and school first.
