Tinder vs Happn | Is Happn Better Than Tinder? | 2023 Review

Both Tinder and Happn are popular dating apps. Yet both have pros and cons. So which is better for you, Tinder or Happn?

Here’s your Tinder vs Happn Review.

Important: Quickly letting you know I found the best opener EVER. Its psychologically irresistible to ignore. I made a video explaining how to use it and it's 'clickbait-principle' with screenshot examples. Check it out here.

By the end of this article, you’ll know whether Tinder or Happn is right for you.

What is Tinder?

Tinder is probably the most famous dating app in the world.

And it enjoys that reputation for a reason. You can create a profile in minutes and start matching and chatting seconds later.

These are some of Tinder’s best features:

  • It doesn’t cost you a penny.
  • Popular throughout the world.
  • Find hookups or relationships.
  • All of the above. Pretty legit, right?

What is Happn?

Happn is a dating app with a big difference compared to its competition.

Instead of swiping strangers, you like people’s profiles that you’ve literally crossed paths with.

That means you’ll get a chance to chat with anyone that you pass in the street within a 250m radius. At least, if they’re using Happn.

This is why Happn deserves some attention:

  • It (also) doesn’t cost you a penny.
  • Provides a list of nearby profiles.
  • More likely to have things in common with the girls you match because you frequent the same places.
  • Popular in some European cities (such as London and Paris).

Who is it for?

Tinder and Happn are both typical dating apps. They’re really all about finding someone fun to get intimate with.

Are you looking for romantic companionship? Whether it’s a hookup or a longer-term relationship? Both apps can help you find it. Read on for tips on how to make the apps work for you!

How do you make a profile?

Here’s how you set up a Tinder account:

  1. Download the app on the App Store or Google Play.
  2. Click create account.
  3. Select a sign-in method.
  4. Verify information (if prompted).
  5. Set up a profile.
  6. Start swiping.

Here’s how you set up a Happn account:

  1. Download the app on the App Store or Google Play.
  2. Select a sign-in method.
  3. Input name and date of birth.
  4. Select gender.
  5. Allow access to your location.
  6. Set up a profile.
  7. Start looking through the list of nearby profiles

How does it work?

Once you’ve set up a profile, here’s what you do.

On Tinder, swipe right for girls you like, and swipe left for girls you don’t.

If you swipe right on a girl who has already liked you, it’s a match!

You can send a message right away, or wait. I recommend sending a message ASAP. The Tinder algorithm rewards those who message soon after matching.

Sometimes, you swipe right on someone but you don’t match right away. Because she hasn’t had a chance to swipe you yet. But if she eventually swipes you right, you’ll still match. ✨

But on Happn, you don’t see one profile and swipe accordingly.

You see a list of those you’ve crossed paths with. And if you click the heart and like someone who’s liked you too, Happn lets you chat with each other!

Some people prefer the single swipe format, others the Happn list format.

Try them both out to see which you like.

Do you have to pay?

Tinder is free, but offers three paid subscriptions: Tinder Plus, Tinder Gold, and Tinder Platinum.

  • Tinder Plus introduces one of my favorite features, Passport. It gives you the ability to change your location and swipe around the world. Price depends on age and region.
  • Tinder Gold has everything Tinder Plus has, plus one important feature: you can see who likes you. That can save you time swiping on randos. It costs about 10 bucks more than Plus.
  • Tinder Platinum is the best subscription of all because it makes women see your profile earlier than anyone without Platinum. And it gives you the ability to send women a text before matching. Costs about 15 dollars more than Plus.

For a more comprehensive explanation of Tinder subscription options, read my ultimate guide to all your options here!

Happn is also free in its basic version.

But unlike Tinder, there’s only one paid subscription: Happn Premium. It costs between 10 to 25 dollars per month, depending on whether you pay per month or for a whole year.

Happn Premium isn’t anything special. It largely copies Tinder’s paid features.

Happn Premium gives you:

  • Unlimited likes.
  • Flashnotes, Happn’s name for sending a message to someone before you’ve matched (similar to Tinder Platinum).
  • See who likes you (similar to Tinder Gold).
  • Hide some of your personal information if you like (e.g. age, distance) .

Which app is better for hookups?

This really depends on where you go every day.

If you’re a creature of habit and only visit the same places over and over again, Happn probably isn’t your best bet.

Not because Happn doesn’t get you in touch with women looking to hook up. But because you’ll probably be seeing these women regularly.

After all, you roughly go to the same places.

So if your bedroom mambo was meant to be a one-off, it can be a little awkward to run into each other again when you’re in the supermarket browsing toilet paper.

Tinder saves you from these awkward moments with its reach. Just match girls on the other side of town.

Tldr; both are good for hookups. But Happn can make things a little weird / complicated if you already know each other from the gym or coffee shop.

Tinder vs. Happn, who wins?

Here are Tinder’s pros and cons.

  • Largest number of users.
  • Popular across the world.
  • People of all ages, ethnicities, sexualities, and backgrounds.
  • Perfect for when you’re visiting/living in a capital city.
  • Good for both flings and relationships.
  • Quantity does not always equal quality.
  • Lacks decent filtering options.
  • The paid Platinum subscription is becoming increasingly necessary.
  • Wildly varied levels of interest and engagement.

And here are Happn’s.

  • Easy to use.
  • Gives you a list of options nearby.
  • Distance ensures you’ll have something in common.
  • Great if you hang out in places with beautiful women.
  • Not much going on outside the cities.
  • Awful if you don’t want to be tracked.
  • More likely to see the same people.

In my view, Tinder wins hands down.

IMPORTANT: this doesn’t mean you should only try Tinder.

Considering you already have all the photos you need for an attractive dating profile, it’d be almost silly to stick to one dating app.

So try ‘em out both!

Build a profile she can’t resist to match

The dating app you choose ultimately matters much less than the quality of your profile.

You could be on the best dating app in the world. With nothing but the most beautiful women who happen to fall for guys exactly like you. And it’d all be worthless if your dating profile was ass.

To have a good time on a dating app, you must have an attractive profile!
